The art of doing nothing in Zanzibar

    February 19, 2018 / No Comments

When you think of Zanzibar, you picture a perfect honeymoon destination of pristine beaches and crystal clear blue waters. You picture an island getaway lazing on a hammock with a book in your hand and wind in your hair. The first thing that greeted me upon arriving was a dilapidated airport in desperate need of repair. Gone were the plush carpets and the stark cold air that blows from the vents lining the aerobridge. Forget the vents – there wasn’t a single aerobridge in sight! We were ushered into a ratty old bus that took us to the terminal proper where the arrivals hall was probably the same size as…

  • This guy is a badass on basket boats.
  • Couple goals: Cruising down the river on a basket boat towards the sunset. My love, do you hear me? I need a holiday, now!
  • When you got lost and stumbled upon this glorious sunset. Worth it.
  • High in the sky we can see the whole world down below, we’re walking the tightrope. The cable car ride up Bana Hills offers one of the most beautiful views I’ve ever seen. And I’ve been to Cape Town’s Table Mountain.
  • They say if your fate is not tied to a person, even if they’re right in front of you, you might not see them. I don’t know how we managed to lose our friends on the 200 metre-long bridge, but we did.
  • Handsy.
  • Borcsht to warm my cold insides up this spring morning... and every morning. I had the best butter with the toast- it’s salty and gritty, with hints of spice. I was too shy to ask what it was, but couldn’t find it on Google either. Can any Russians help a hungry girl out here?
  • Happy International Women’s Day from Russia! It’s a big thing over here, where women are celebrated with lots of love and flowers. I got a bunch of these beautiful yellow mimosa flowers walking into the Singer House. Ladies, it’s our day. Let’s forget our troubles for awhile, go out and have some fun! We deserve it.
  • This cappuccino at the birthplace of coffee packs a good punch.
